mass media and society

i believe mass media has made many problems for society. one is that it puts so much pressure on women to look a certian way or what to wear or how to act. it controls us as a society. yea it's the basic stuff we covered in class but it's still a strong belief of mine. but mass media could help society. there are possitive and encouraging radio and tv shows. their goal is to uplift and encourage their viewers/listeners to help to get them through the day. so mass media can either help or hurt society. overall, i would consider it a hurtfull and damaging element to our society.

fmylife.com

ok, so i tried to post a blog last week about fmylife.com entitled fmylife, but hit enter after putting the title in so it posted. as i went to edit it, my laptop decides to randomly hibernate. so i wasn't depressed or anything at all, just trying to make a blog. so here is my second attempt to do this.
its about fmylife.com. it's a site were ppl can post events that happened in their day that is really embarassing or that just suck. it happens to be a very entertaining website among my friends and myself b/c some of the stuff is really funny. others you just feel sorry for the ppl that this stuff happened to. but this got me thinking (beware, thinking doesn't happen much with me). why do american such as my friends and me find other people's problems and humiliations appealing and entertaining. america's funniest home videos have been doing this for years. youtube followed, then fmylife.com. has america become so cold hearted that we turn to others pain to enlighten my day. if something happened to me that was embarassing, i wouldn't want it to be shown so all america can see it. i thought that embarassing was doing something dumb infront of ppl. so it would make it more embarassing to do it infront of all america. o well, its still funny, no matter how you look at it i guess.

Some People Change

If you like country music at all, you know about the group Montgomery Gentry. They have a cd out entitled Some People Change. This cd put into perspective how lucky I am to have the life I have. There are a couple of typical country songs, but if you take out those 2 or 3 songs, you have a great inspirational cd. With songs like Some People Change, Lucky Man, It Takes All Kinds, and Free Ride in the Fast Lane make this cd incredible. The song Lucky Man is about all the little things in life that others migh not have and how lucky we are to have these things. Some People Change is a song about people turning there life around. A sinner is saved, a addict stops drinking and so on. This song is powerful to me b/c all we have to do is plant the seed to bring others to Christ or help turn their life around from other problems they might have. The last two songs that I mentioned helped me understand that it takes everyone to make the world the way it is and that I have to work hard for everything I do.
This cd didn't really hit me untill a couple weeks after I bought it and I went on a missions trip to Philidelphia and saw all the intercity poverty and this cd came to mind. It reminded me how lucky I am to be born into a great family and that I need to work hard with others to help those in need of help.

FRIENDS - The tv sticoms impact on my life

The former popular tv show FRIENDS has impacted my life and influenced how I think of the real world. The group of six close friends would just hang out all day, sometimes going to work, and just live life like they wanted. Everything just seemed to work out for them, giving me a false aspect on the real world and how hard it is going to be. Mind you I started watching FRIENDS at a young age, around 8 or 9. I thought that i could go to work 3 times a week and still have an awesome life and be able to support myself. The show didn't show the real struggles of life in a realistic way, even though they did try to throw in some struggles just to add to the drama of the episode. But the greatest tv show ever didn't just give me these negitive views, I learned that your good friends are always going to be there and you can always count on them. I am not saying that this show is the best show to get all your morales from, but you can learn some stuff from it and laugh a lot.

The boondock saints

If you have ever seen the movie Boondock Saints, you not only know how great of a movie it is, but also overly violent. Why are movies like these so violent? Because we Americans love it so much. But that's another topic. Im going after the controversy in the movie of weather or not it's ever okay to murder someone. I can see both sides of the argument, and have to side with the no side. Its never okay to kill anyone, no matter what they have done.
Forgive and forget. That is what I say that it's never good to kill anyone for any reason. Besides, who are we to play God? I know that some others would look at this totally different, and would I act upon my words in a situation simular to this? I hope to never find out. But others can look at this and say "look what they did to my family! An eye for and eye right?" Jesus talks about this in Matthew 5:38-39. "You have heard that it was said, 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH. But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also." So Jesus has an answer for the Boondock Saints. Yea, take that movies of extreme violence and controversy!

Exploring the movie 300

300 is one of my all time favorite movies. Mostly because it's based on actual events. No one knows for sure how the spartans actually fought because, like Xerxes said, he would destroy all records of the spartans. So the only reason we know about this war and the battle of Thermopylae, the battle portrayed in the movie, is by word of mouth that was passed down through the generations.
One question you might have about the movie is what is up with the creatures and huge monsters. Well, they all represent the evil and nastiness of Xerxes and his army. He wanted the land of sparta and the people for slaves. So putting those in the movies was just a wise way of showing how evil the persians were.
Also, you might wonder what the deal is with the ugly people at the top of the mountain Leonidas climbs at the beginning of the movie and why is there a lady dancing around in clothes you can see through. Well, the wise ugly people were ugly for a reason. They didn't like the spartans at all or there ways of life. But that is who Leonidas had to talk to so he could go to war. Now the lady that was dancing around and was mumbling stuff is a practice that the ugly wise people actually used. The odor that they unleashed was a hallucinagent that made people do crazy things. But at the time, they thought is was a why for the gods to talk to us through people. But to please the gods, they chose the most beautiful women to do this.
So I hope I cleared up some things on the movie 300 and what the directors were trying to portray.

Superbowl ad

One of my favorite superbowl ads this year was the remake of the Mean Joe Green coke commercial. This time is was with Troy Polamalu and the coke zero lawyers. First off, you see Troy walking down the tunnel limping after the game. A kid asks if he wants a coke zero and Troy says no. The lawyers that have been in previous commercials for coke zero come and take the coke away. Troy then tackles the lawyer with the coke zero and drinks it. Thats pretty much the commercial. But I am gonna take a deeper look at it. Troy is limping at the start of the commercial and at the end he is running to take his coke zero. Hence, coke zero will give you a rush of energy to help you get it and its obviously refreshing. Even after a three hour football game, he still has energy to get the coke zero. The camera angle stays the same through out the whole commercial. Its shot in an open frame where you can see everything thats going on.
The commercial is telling us that no matter how sore, tired, or dehydrated we are, coke zero is always refreshing. It does it in a way that reminds us of the origanal Mean Joe Green commercial which might make us want a coke rather than a coke zero. This advertisement works in both ways. Below are the links to the origanal Mean Joe Green commercial and the Troy Polamalu commercial so you can see the simularities.
